Without a doubt the Geltrú Vialnova i has many attractions: beaches, railway museum, carnivals, old Geltrú, and much more. I put up some photos and one of the Super Pollo local tradition in the city where they serve tasty chicken, the roads of Salvador Sama and Principal, the fishing port and sports port, and the central Market...it deserves a visit.
Roges Ribes Beach is the closest to Playa del Ingles (Gran Canaria) in Catalunya. And not for the gay, but for: the length of the shore, mile to walk, the overall beach cleanliness, the hammocks, volleyball nets, goals and guardhouses to "Baywatch". Perhaps the best thing is that it about 10 minutes away from the promenade and the heart.
La Rambla Principal is the main artery running in the life of the inhabitants of Vilanova. It is flanked on one side by the Plaça de la Vila Carrer dels Caputxins i and on the other by the Central Market. The upper part of La Rambla (farthest from the sea) begins at the rear of San Antonio Abad church. Coming down to the right is the Municipal Theatre and a couple of interesting restaurants on the street on the left. Throughout the entire Rambla there are various shops including major clothing chains. Heading to the railway (which passes through an underground tunnel) are mansions that stand out much more than in any other location, such as Can Pahissa and Magriñà House. From the railway Rambla is renamed as the "Rambla de la Pau" and flows into the harbor, where there is a statue honoring Francesc Macia.
The street "Carrer dels Caputxins" owes its name to the convent which once stood in the area and disappeared when Josep Tomas Ventosa i Soler acquired the land with the law of confiscation of 1,845. This allowed the lengthening of the shopping street of Vilanova. Here you can find all kinds of shops from clothing to books and music stores, gourmet stores, many shoe shops and a toy store which holds a special place in my heart, because every summer when we walked past, I was so excited to see what new toys they had.
Train Station Vilanova was losing importance and now it is just a commuter station, but it has maintained its close relationship of Vilanova with the world rail trains with the creation of the Railroad Museum.
The lighthouse of San Cristobal (Far de Sant Cristòfol) is one of the most striking on the coast of Barcelona. It has been a bit "hidden" with the urbanization of the stream next to the harbor area, but it still attracts attention. I never tire of taking photos
Adarró Beach is a beautiful urban beach of fine golden sand, which ends at the pier and the sculpture of Pasiphae. On the 1st of January the beach is quiet and the atmosphere relaxed and not stuffy. It is a good time to enjoy these places. And if you are lucky you can enjoy a most beautiful sunset. Vilanova has a number of good quality beaches, which are well maintained.
The pub-brewery corQuatre is local aspect for the Irish who have a beer or a quiet drink with friends, especially at night and on weekends. This pub is frequented by people from 30-40 years, it has imported beers, offers and serves drinks in glasses like God Send. It is in the neighborhood of the Geltrú, a perfect place for a first drink and to chat with friends and consider what the night will hold.
We relaxed on the terrace with the best gin and tonics in the city. It has a great atmosphere and the best drinks. I love the place. It is well worth a visit. You only have to come and experience it yourself and you will smile. It is situated in an excellent location in the center of Vilanova. There is also a big screen where you can watch the football with a gin and tonic in hand.
This is a long tour beginning in Vilanova. Climb along the promenade and find Pastera torrent (GR-92) that leads to Mas de l'Artís and then the Pla de les Palmeres. It's in the final cross under an aqueduct, follow the road for a few meters to get to the top of the dam. You can cross and take a tour along the entire reservoir.
This is an impressive building and one of the few examples of Catalan modernism in the city. This former manor house dating from 1921, belonged to Joseph M Miró and is currently the municipal center for the elderly.
Far out on the beach of Vilanova, near Sant Cristòfol, you can visit the remains of an old mill and a tidal system. The system entails the closing of the marshes, in this case, to retain water during high tide and low tide and to leverage and produce an uneven flow necessary for the operation of the mill's machines.
A monument to Francesc Macia (1st president of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the son of the city). It was made by the artist Joseph Maria Subirachs and is at the intersection of Passeig Maritim and Rambla de la Pau.
