Playa de Ses Illetes

In Ibiza and Formentera we like the scuba diving and snorkeling option that offers: access to waters full of life, very good visibility that is the envy of other destinations, and more economical prices. Currently there is asailing-charter offer - a week full board exclusively dedicated to making a rewarding diving experience, its also at a reasonable price and lets you see sunsets (as in the photo, crossing from Denia to Ibiza and Formentera). By the way, you may occasionally be visited by families of dolphins.

What can I say about the beaches in Formentera? Last Saturday I spent a few hours in a small coved called "es Caló des Mort." You can get there by car until the long, sandy Playa des Migjorn and from there you have to walk a bit among the dunes until you get to the more intimate Caló d'es Moro. When I saw the beach at Playa des Migjorn, I said "I'm staying here!" because it seemed like an amazing and beautiful place but, thankfully, my boyfriend who knows the place well, talked me into continuing for a few meters more until reached this quiet cove, ideal for snorkeling, swimming, or just breathing and enjoying the surrounding paradise.

Cala Saona

The best of Cala Saona is definitely experienced from the sea. Watching the sunset from the sea and spending the night, then waking up in paradise is an unforgettable experience. If you have the chance to go there by boat it's worth it to get away from the islands and spend a night in this cove.

Cabo de Berbería Lighthouse

The Barbaria Cape Lighthouse is next to La Mola (at the other end of Formentera) and it's one of those places in Formentera that you never have to stop going to because it's so beautiful. Especially seeing a sunset there. In the summer you can usually go from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. It's located in the southeast part of the island, about 7 miles away from San Francisco, which happens to be the nearest town.
Flea Markets in Formentera
La Mola Market
(8)
La Mola Market is a hippie market that's a really interesting place to visit on your trip to Formentera. It's a great tourist destination because it's in one of the most visited areas: La Mola. A good day to go to the flea market is Wednesda, which is when there's a great atmosphere of people, and the best time to go is in the afternoon until about 10 p.m. It's mostly a market where you can buy leather products, silver, stone, etc. And there are live concerts.

Es Cap de Barbaria Lighthouse
(10)
Barbaría Cap is in Formentera. It is one of the Balearic Islands. Amazing place to spend a few days in summer. Barbaría Cap became famous thanks to the movie "Sex and Lucia". It was shot in this very same place and at the right of the lighthouse we can find a hole overlooking the cliff, which also appears in the film.

Not only do I recommend you to go up to take a picture of Ibiza or Formentera, I recommend you to stay for lunch at the restaurant there in the gazebo. They do a terrific band rice. It's not as good with the price, as you know Formentera is not known for being one of the cheapest places to travel, and less in summer.

Flea Markets in Formentera
Flea Market of Sant Francesc
(8)
In the middle of the village of Sant Francesc you can find one of the best markets, located next to the markets of La Mola, Es Pujols and the market of La Savina. This market is open seven days a week, always in the morning. If I´m not mistaken, I think it closes at 2:00. It's a hippie market with crafts, clothing, jewelry, handmade items, etc ... right in the center of town.

Port Es Caló
(4)
This port is a natural harbor, tiny, sheltered and charming, and you can sit and contemplate it for long time without you getting tired. This tiny and beautiful pier consists of several 'escars,' typical docks that are cut in the rock and allow the boats to be beached when the tide goes out. Es Calo is surrounded by an environment of well-preserved forest and its coastline and seabed are beautiful. It has a small beach where you can sunbathe in complete tranquility and there are also several good restaurants offering fish dishes and traditional Formenteran cuisine. From the terraces you can enjoy the views of the Tramontana coast, Punta Prima, and the island of Ibiza.

Blue Bar Formentera

Apart from being a beach bar/restaurant where you'll actually eat well, at night a lot of nice people come here and it makes a great atmosphere with good music and of course, some spectacular sunsets. For people who don't like environments with a lot of people, it's advisable not to go in August. It's better to go in June or July.

Coincidentally we had our cameras in the car, so when we passed by and saw this place, which is a little bit east of the small fishing village of Es Calo de Sant Agustí, on the beautiful island of Formentera, we were, without a doubt, reminded that we were in one of the last Mediterranean paradises, trying to immortalize what we saw, but it was impossible.

Nature Reserves in Formentera
Can Marroig from the Sea
(2)
It is a natural reserve in Formentera and is not too populated and has lovely cliffs. There are many environments with ecological characteristics: the salt ponds, the beaches, dune ridges with junipers centuries, cliffs and rocky shores. Today I am writing about Marroig , which can be viewed from the ocean. We rented a motorboat and spent the day at sea. Going to eat at Cala Saona, we passed the area of Can Marroig, lovely from the sea, full of seagulls watched us from the rocks, pools of deep blue. I sprayed the mini anchor of our mini boat and we watched to see the landscape, often lonely. There was only one problem, the jellyfish. It was a year of many jellyfish, and many times in these natural pools you could not get a foot without forty or fifty them to come say hello. I recommend it both from the sea, and for walks through the entire reservation.

Beach Bar Pirata Bus
(6)
The Pirate is a snack bar located on the beach of Es Arenals, in Formentera. You can get there via a road, on the road to Sa Mola Savina, which at the entrance, has a sign with the number of kilometer 11. It is a small piece of wood, and from a distance you can see the pirate flag flying. It has four wooden tables outside, but at sunset it gets very full and you will see people literally sitting on the sand and rocks, waiting for the sunset. Here you can enjoy a beer, or perhaps a mojito, which taste great, and you can relax watching the sun go down. When it is about to fall, the waiter, as if imbued with the sun, puts on the song "For you Volare" by Andrea Bocelli, and the song when it starts is the last leg of the sunset, and just when you leave to see the sun, the song ends, all perfectly coordinated. Everyone applauds, and wait for the next day, when they can return.
