1 review of Asaita Market

A market in Ethiopia that attracts hundreds of people

Goats, camels, fabrics, spices and odors, fruit, everything you can imagine is sold in the market of Asayita. This is the most important market of the Afar area of Ethiopia and it attracts hundreds of people from across the region to buy and sell products. Here there are no jobs, people laying on the floor with all the things they want to sell and so the city is full of makeshift stalls. The only thing that all vendors use are some plastic sheeting for protection from heat, as temperatures hover around 50 degrees. Here you can find everything from all kinds of animals, camels, to a position in which only sold four bananas, which is held by the seller, or even old shoes that no longer serve any purpose.
