Beautiful facades

The Gate of Bourgogne is below the stone bridge of Bordeaux, and leads into to the city by the side of the Cours Victor Hugo. Construction began in 1751 about a project of Tourny. It was much criticized because it had no decorations, sculptures, while in this era the power of the city was reflected in beautiful facades and urban details. But it is a massive door, of large proportions, and the visitor is minuscule in comparison. It is a triumphal arch that will take you to the Port of the moon, the old part of the city, a UNESCO world heritage site.
