Castillo de Santueri

El castillo de Santueri es una fortificación situada en una de las cima de la Sierra de Levante de Mallorca (Felanitx) con una altitud de 408 metros. Es un castillo roquero porque se sitúa en la cima de una montaña, lo cual lo hace prácticamente inexpugnable. Las murallas cierran el perímetro de la cima allí por donde ésta es accesible. El castillo se forma por la combinación de rocas, acantilados y murallas delimitando un recinto sobre la montaña. El castillo se reconstruyó sobre las ruinas de una fortificación árabe del siglo XIV, las cuales estaban sobre restos bizantinos, probablemente sobre un asentamiento militar romano. Su cometido era vigilar la costa Sureste de Mallorca. Desde él se divisa perfectamente el mar. Otros castillos en Mallorca del mismo tipo son: el castell del Rei y el castell de Alaró. Durante muchos años el castillo de Santueri ha sido propiedad privada, pero hace un par de años ya se ha abierto al público.

The castle of Santueri is a fortification located in one of the top of the Sierra de Levante of Majorca (Felanitx) with an altitude of 408 meters. It is a rocky castle because it is situated on top of a mountain, which makes it practically impregnable. The walls close the perimeter of the top where it is accessible. The castle is formed by the combination of rocks, cliffs and walls delimiting an enclosure on the mountain. The castle was rebuilt on the ruins of a 14th century Arab fortification, which were on Byzantine remains, probably on a Roman military settlement. Its mission was to watch the southeast coast of Mallorca. From it the sea can be seen perfectly. Other castles in Mallorca of the same type are: the castell del Rei and the castell de Alaró. For many years the castle of Santueri has been privately owned, but a couple of years ago it has already opened to the public.
