Plean House

In Scotland there are areas and districts that had their origins in what is called "estate" or land owned by a wealthy family whose center was their house, castle or mansion. The mansion known as Plean ("Plean House") is a magnificent example in the area of ​​Stirling. Plean Stirling is a hamlet, and now a national park, which was named by the existence of the Plean estate. The Plean mansion was built in the late eighteenth century by one of the richest merchants in the city, William Simpson, who made his wealth by trading with East India. The family was maintaining the mansion and the land until the business began to decline.
