José Luciano de Castro Palace

1 review of José Luciano de Castro Palace

José Luciano de Castro Palace

José Luciano de Castro Palace now houses a museum, part of the Santa Casa da Misericordia of Anadia. The mansion was built in 1860 by Alexandre Ferreira (1818-1891) and is currently a bit run down, but still shows part of the beauty of what it was in antiquity, the highlight are the various blue tiles on the back - the most spectacular of the building. José Luciano lived in the mansion until his death in 1914 at the outbreak of World War I, he was head of the Progressive Party and a remarkable statesman of liberal monarchy. Admission to the museum is free and it's open 9:00-12:30 hours and 14:00-17:30.
