The Obelisk of A Coruña is one of those monuments that can be seen from many different parts of the city. Located on the promenade of A Coruñam it was inaugurated on January 1, 2001 and stands 46 meters high. The architect was Antonio Desmonts, the drawings were by Gerardo Porto, and it was built by the company Necso. It consists of 174 pieces of rock crystal, on three sides. On its surface are drawings depicting scenes from the history of the city, like the figure of King Alfonso IX (who named A Coruña an official city in 1208), the Battle of Coruña, María Pita, etc.
