Monterey

Located on the California coast, south of San Francisco near the charming seaside resort of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Monterey is a small town that is not devoid of charm. It was Steinbeck's favorite city, where he left many footprints. It is also the city of canning (as Steinbeck depicts precisely in his work) with its famous Cannery Row. We also like its pretty, small quiet beaches, especially in winter, when tourists abandon the coast. Its small shops and restaurants are a nice touch.
