San Juan Chamula is situated in the state of Chiapas, 10 km away from San Cristobal de las Casas. Chamula is an adjective which was given to the Maya ethnic groups that inhabit the highlands of Chiapas, above all, it is a town which maintains the pre-Hispanic cultures and customs. We were told that we were not allowed to take photos of the Chamula Indians, nor inside or outside the church, and we had to be careful not to get too close to them because according to their beliefs they will be robbed of their soul. As always, there are people trying to skip these "rules" and specifically in our group
