The Historic Regatta of Venica

1 review of The Historic Regatta of Venica

Storica Regatta

The 1st Sunday of September is the traditional Storica Regatta in Venice. It begins with a parade of typical XVI century boats led by a ship that represents the Republic of Venice called Bucintoro that commemorates the entrance and reception in 1489 of Caterina Cornaro (wife of the King of Cyprus who gave up his throne in favor of Venice). Then there's a competition between sailors and gondoliers. There are different tests for men and women depending on the type of boat. It really is a show and you're lucky to be in Venice if it coincides with this race.
