Over its 25-year life, The Crannog has built an impressive reputation as one of the best seafood restaurants in Scotland. It's very possible the best restaurant in Fort William and the surrounding area. The fish is unbelievably fresh and the salmon is straight from the local rivers. All the fish are cooked and presented in a modern haute-cuisine style. The menu has lots of options and the staff are very attentive and helpful. Oh, and the restaurant has stunning views of the bay. Interestingly, the restaurant also organizes boat trips to spot seals, which makes it a very busy place in the spring and summer seasons. It's almost always fully-booked (even in winter) so you need to make sure to make reservations a few days in advance. Don't miss it!
Located on the main street in the town center of Fort William on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, Ben Nevis Bakery is the perfect place to start the day with a rich breakfast (or a balanced one, your choice ^.^) Named for the nearby Ben Nevis mountain, the bakery specializes in all types of small pies loaded with good things - several have won awards because they are excellent! These are the best we have found in Scotland, and we ate a lot while we were there ;-) We especially recommend the highland beef pie: it is one of the best there - probably the next one to win a prize!
Right on High Street, in the heart of Fort William in the western foothills of the Scottish highlands facing the North Atlantic Ocean, the Crofton Bar restaurant is a pub that also serves local specialties. Make sure to try their "haggis," a Scottish specialty made with oats and cooked inside the belly of a sheep (I know it does not sound very appetizing, but I love it! ) The bar also offers free wifi!
Maybe I just didn't like Scottish food, but I couldn't find anywhere decent during my whole trip, and The Tavern is no exception. The menu is huge and the prices, like everything in Scotland, are expensive, with the cheapest dishes starting around £10.00. If the food was good, there wouldn't be a problem but it was bland and didn't seem to have been made with much care at all. Don' get me wrong...the place is nice if you want to grab a pint, but it's probably not a good place for dinner.
