Conchita House Restaurant

Even though the place doesn’t seem very inviting from outside (it looks like the typical highway restaurant), the food was great. Just like the sign says, it is “a sign of identity” (“seña de identidad), since we could try authentic and typical gastronomy, with a special silbo (whistle language) demonstration. Potent meals based on a watercress stew, a cheese called “almogrote”, a delicious pineapple salad with cheese, grapes and lettuces, with a dressing make of palm honey, an “old fashioned” tuna casserole and pig with rosemary. It was accompanied by bread and sauces. And afterwards came the dessert: an original “gofio” (toasted corn) mousse with palm honey (spectacular, and I don’t even like gofio). We also had a “barraquito” (coffee, milk, condensed milk and liquor). The food was excellent, although too much for my stomach. After we finished eating, the owner, Fabián Mora, demonstrated the silbo, which was declared cultural heritage by the UNESCO. The whistled language is the utmost expression of the popular culture of La Gomera and it constitutes the identity of the island, transmitting from generation to generation.

La Molina Restaurant

It is one of the new incorporations to the nights in Canary Islands. It opened more than a year ago and it is already a classic. It is in Agulo, on the main road, 2 km from Hermiguea. It has incredible views, by day and night, the town and Tenerife, with a great terrace and private parking lot. Moreover, the owner is a curious character. You must listen carefully to what he says, and I think that he is the only local that suffers from endemic stress. I recommend that you order the mini-arepas with ground meat and the stew. The rest you can choose. He has another gift: he knows how to do really good cocktails, so maybe you will convince him to make you a Cuba-inspired cocktail. I recommend the mango one. Just be careful not to drive afterwards. It is a very pleasant place, always open for the hungry ones. It is ideal for a calm afternoon or before an unforgettable night.

Bar Restaurant El Silbo

This restaurant-bar-terrace-club is the soul of our nights in La Gomera. It’s been open for more than 10 years, and it has been the meeting place for every generation. Its anniversary party is a must, it has evolved with the years, and every year there is a different theme. I don’t know what theme they will choose for this year. I’m sure that they take suggestions. It is usually planned for the summer, for the holiday of the 15th of August. But it is not only terrace and drinks; its restaurant has a special charm as well. You can eat the best sirloin in the island (I recommend the sirloin with mustard sauce), and they also have crunchy and original pizzas. And for tourists and lovers of local food, they have a wide menu that offers local dishes and desserts. The service is good, the food is good and everybody is very professional.

Restaurante Cuatro Caminos

Cuatro Caminos restaurant is situated on Calle Ruiz de Padron, one of the main streets running from the center of San Sebastian. It is located in a beautiful typical house of the Canary Islands, offering you the chance to see what they look like on the inside. They serve traditional Canarian food such as suckling pig, braised beans, grilled meats and fish ... if you want to try the canaries cheeses, they have both goats and sheeps cheese, and they are exceptional. The restaurant is very good but not cheap. It costs between 15 and 20 euros without wine at noon and a little more at night time. They also offer a selection of international cuisine too. Behind the house there is a small patio if you want to eat outside one day.

I just ate the grilled rabbit in The Cottage by the ravine of La Villa. The location is very rural, but you eat well and cheaply. There were 5 of us and the cost was 54 euros. The Gofio con Chicharrones is typical here. Every year they go on vacation from December 1 until past kings. As seen in the photo they do not accept credit cards.

Kiosco las Carabelas
(2)
This kiosk is hidden under huge a ficus centenary, in the Constitution Square. It is situated in the heart of Old San Cristobal, which is very similar to how it was when Christopher Columbus and his crew arrived here all those years ago. The Caravels hark back to those ships that called at La Gomera before leaving for the Americas. They serve breakfast in the morning, you can try the roasted maize meal and island honey, flowers and palm, stronger and darker. At noon there is a Canarian tapas menu, serving wrinkled potatoes, marinated meats, stew .. It is a slightly touristy place but as it is one of the only places with shade, elderly people also come to chat over a coffee. A lunch time menu will cost you about 10 euros.

El Meson de Clemente
It is a pleasant place. The grilled ribs, the steak, and the pig’s feet are some of the specialties. With the bread you receive some delicious arepas. If the weather allows it, you can eat outside. It is not crowded, since the touristic buses don’t go there. Try to avoid the touristic places since the food is usually not very good.

Mirador César Manrique Restaurant

This is my first experience with the island of La Gomera. It is a small island that can be traveled in no time, through sinuous roads, that sometimes take your breath away, especially when you’re near the precipices and cliffs. After traveling the island through the eastern part of the island, we went to Valle Gran Rey, and there we discovered this restaurant and its fantastic viewpoint. The food is tasty, the service is quick and the views are impressive.

Bar la Vista Restaurant

It is found in the region of the forest of El Cedro, in the middle of nature. There is a camping, cottage and restaurant. You must take something to protect yourself from the cold, especially on winter. The menu is not vast but it is fine. The most typical dish is the watercress stew. You can get there by car or hiking. It is a nice place to make a stop on the way. It is in the mountain, far from civilization.

Restaurante Torre del Conde
When you have a great décor that makes you smile when you enter a restaurant, great service by the staff, a selection of excellent dishes and a chef ve knows what he´s doing, you get a restaurant with exactly what you want. This is the case of Restaurante Torre del Conde, a tiny restaurant in San Sebastian that is consistently excellent, the service, the place, the dishes. Every dish that came out was better than the last. A highly recommended place that happens to be one of my favorite restaurants.
