An antique and legendary restaurant located under the Aqueduct of Segovia. A classic style, decorated with wooden walls and floors, upon entering you are encompassed by the heat of the ovens and the smell of suckling pig coming from the kitchen.
Of the most typical, a good suckling pig, red wine and something to nibble at, such as peppers or a warm sopa castellana (typically consisting of either water or broth, leftover bread, paprika, bay laurel, garlic and olive oil). The ritual for serving the suckling pig (which they cut with a plate) is performed by the inn-keeper. Prices are about 30 euros per person, depending on what you eat.
I would rank Restaurante José María as the best restaurant in Segovia, ahead of the legendary Candide and Duque. It is probably the least-known of the three, but if you go, you're sure to come back. It features fantastic examples of the local cuisine, particularly tapas. Go at the weekend and you'll find it full of people there to enjoy the famous cochinillo - and here, I promise you, you'll find the best cochinillo in Segovia and, in my opinion, in all of Spain. Accompanied by good wine and a plate of beans, it's truly delicious! In one of the videos I show Jose Maria cutting the pork with the edge of a plate to show how tender the meat is; you don't even need a knife! Have a look on their website to learn more about their pigs and how they are raised. The restaurant has valet parking somewhere but I recommend parking nearby to allow yourself a bit of a walk to build your appetite for the feast that awaits you!
Restaurante Duque is the oldest inns and restaurants in Segovia, dating back to 1895. Since then, several generations of the family have offered high quality Segovian cuisine. Of course you'll want to try the local specialties, so you must have the beans to start, followed by the suckling piglet ("cochinillo") and for dessert, the "ponche segoviano". That's what we went for: the menu Segovia costs €30, and includes wine. Worth a visit.
There is no lack of places to try roast lamb in Segovia, but my favorite is the Asadador Bernardino. This is a classic site of the lifetime and offers its raw material prices and typical 'no compromise': roast lamb, suckling pig fantastic, very good meat and a dessert Segovia Segovia punch of the best in the city.
After walking all morning around Segovia, rejecting one restaurant after the other for various reasons, we found our way to El Cordero, and we were delighted with it. We arrived late, but they gave us great service, smiling all the time. The food was delicious - butter beans, tomato salad, and of course the unforgettable roast lamb. We'll be back, that's for sure.
It was my second time here and I enjoyed a fancy meal at a good price .. I recommend the tasting menu and they also have several menus for couples and an exception menu. Be sure to go because the quality to price is amazing.
THis is a popular restaurant with good prices. It is great if you want to go with friends, groups, or companies. They have the best piglet I have ever eaten, and I have traveled all around tasting piglet. I made a reservation well in advance. The food was very good. It was delicious with generous quantities and reasonably priced, about 25€/person with drinks, dessert and bread. We settled at a table next to one of the windows, so we enjoyed the concert in the square during dinner! A highly recommended site!
The tasting menu is exquisite! It included all the usual: butter beans, pate, cream of zucchini, pork and Segovia punch. All for € 25.80 per person, which was well worth it and the patio was the icing on the cake.
El Sitio is usually quite full, but you might be able to find a quiet corner in the upstairs dining room. That being said, I think your best bet is to just go to the bar for a couple of beers and tapas.
This restaurant is a real luxury! You'll find it at the beginning of the aqueduct, with free parking, a cozy lounge, and no noise. There's attentive, professional service and a menu with a thousand options to choose from, ranging from toast and carpaccio to meat and seasonal fish to homemade desserts. It also offers a tasting menu and a children's menu. It is a charming environment, part of the renovated monastery of San Antonio el Real. Recommended 100% - the perfect spot to stop and relax.
Every year in March, a half-marathon takes place in the streets of Segovia. It's hard going, especially on the slopes, and I haven't actually run it, just watched. There are plenty of restaurants where you can go after a day's running. We opted for the California, although the name's a bit deceiving ... it is in fact traditional Spanish food. They have menus ranging in price from 16 to about 30 euros, with a variety of main courses. We tried a bit of everything ... scrambled eggs with sausage and pine nuts, Castillian soup, artichokes with ham ... simple cuisine, but absolutely delicious. And plenty of desserts, including apple pie, cheesecake, and flan.
Las Tres BBB is not one of Segovia's legendary restaurants, but it is a local favorite and serves up great, filling meat dishes for a very good price. The best thing here is the daily menu. Ours was for 18 euros and is pretty representative of the choices. For starters, you had soup, bean and sausage stew, or goat cheese salad, and for mains there was ox tail, steak, cochinillo (roast suckling pig), roast lamb, or a whole roast fish. The menu comes with a bottle of house wine, bread, and dessert/coffee.
We ordered the goat cheese salad, the bean stew, and the cochinillo, and I can say that it was delicious. It didn't have the presentation or theatrics of many other cochinillo restaurants, but the skin was perfectly crispy and the fat well-rendered. It was succulent, juicy, and came with just enough salty pan-gravy to make it delicious.
If you're not feeling hungry, I'd also suggest stopping by for a beer and a tapa or, if you visit in the winter, a cup of "caldo con jerez," a warm savory broth served with sherry wine that'll keep you warm on a cold day.
The restaurant of the hotel Casa Mudejar is situated in a beautiful XV century building. We visited the restaurant as we knew of all the prizes it had won: Decalle winner of best tapas for the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. We tried some of the dishes and they were certainly worthy of the prizes, but we did not understand the name "tapas" as they are dishes large enough to eat as a meal. Our favorite was the 2011 winner of Iberian pork, mushrooms and asparagus, topped with an egg and muscat sauce. We also enjoyed the Castilian soup and white butter beans, and being in Segovia, of course we also had to try the famous suckling pig. The building is beautiful and in addition, you can see pieces of Moorish art and Roman remains. On my second visit, I tried the Sephardic menu which was a great discovery, with Mizrahi Minaret potato, zucchini and caramelized apple with duck and ham pate, a tender leaf salad, Mediterranean citrus fruit with plum sauce , olive oil and lemon juice, fillet of cod with sweet and sour sauce or red plum lamb tagine with honey and prunes, all washed down with a kosher wine. They also have a tavern / bar which is more casual and always crowded.
Oscar Hernando, chef of Restaurante Maracaibo Casa Silvano, is the second generation chef of a restaurant that was created along traditional lines but has now evolved some signature tapas and truly original dishes. We didn't eat here because we had a reservation elsewhere, but we did have a delicious soup to warm ourselves up. Oscar is also a partner of a vineyard whose wine has received 92/100 points from Wine Advocate magazine, one of the most respected in the world.
