Oh my goodness. If it weren't for the long lines at this place, I’d be here more often! This bakery is ridiculously popular, and there are only three locations in Southern California. There is a great selection of pastries, sandwiches, and other items at this local business. Potato balls are savory and the guava bread is quite tasty (you can choose to have this with or without cheese). If you’re nowhere near Glendale, there is a location in Burbank and Downey. Note: Pastries can be too sweet sometimes, so eat them slowly/share. And even though it’s typically crowded, the workers do a good job of getting your orders in a timely fashion. Great service!
Toasted Bun has a nice homey feel to it, and some hearty menu items that taste like the best homemade food ever. A personal favorite is the Toasted Bun Omelet, which is stuffed with cheese, onions, mushrooms, bacon, and topped with avocados. The pancakes are pretty good as well. I like the chocolate chip pancakes. If you order coffee, they make it a point to constantly fill it up for you, and everything I've ordered so far is under $10. (Some items are slightly over $10, but with the service and guaranteed happy soul you’ll have afterward, it’s absolutely worth going to.) Tip: the parking there is tight, so I would advise parking in residential streets and walking.
Glendale Pho Co is a great place to go to get a fix of authentic Vietnamese cuisine, especially on a rainy day. It’s a small restaurant and there’s frequently a line to get in, but it’s worth the usual 15- to 20-minute wait time. All the items on the menu are less than $10, and the most expensive dishes are large bowls, so it’s a pretty good value! I recommend the Pho Do Bien for seafood lovers and Pho Tai, Bo Vien if you like meat. Service is friendly, fast and attentive here, too! Glendale Pho Co is located at the corner of Glendale Avenue and East Broadway, right across the police station. There’s no parking available in the lot next to it, but there’s metered street parking. It’s also accessible via LA Metro bus lines 90/91/780.
There are tons of sushi restaurants in LA County, but if you happen to be in the Glendale area and need a cheap sushi fix, Octopus is the place to go. Its cheapest options are basic eight-piece cut rolls that cost less than $3 (like salmon and spicy tuna). Of course, the fish isn’t super premium at fancier sushi restaurants, but it’s definitely not bad considering the price. Staples like edamame and miso soup are also available here. And there’s also a kids menu, so it’s fun to take the family to eat here without spending too much. If you’re craving bigger, more premium rolls, there are a number of those available on the menu as well at standard price, around $10 or a little more. The ambiance is also nice with red lights at the bar and blue lights in the booths with white cushioned seats. There’s free 90-minute parking in the structure on Maryland Avenue. Be sure to check this place out if you’re craving some quick sushi! (There's another Octopus location in Burbank if you happen to be in that area.)
