Restaurants in Portland
Porthole Restaurant
Most of the colorful houses are restaurants, bars or cafes where monologues, and stand up comics, are advertised as the best in the entire USA. I'm talking about The Porthole, one of the restaurants chosen by the locals to eat lobster with golden red potatoes in butter, and mushroom sauce, or the seafood buffet on Friday lunchtimes. At the rear of the Porthole is a terrace which is used as a pier. It is a miniport. At night there many live concerts and at which I recommend you to be prepared to dance. Although at first it is hard to go and do it, once the first icebreaker starts, for the rest it is a breeze. And to drink, you have to try the Shipyard Beer. The Porthole website is very comprehensive. It has the phone number to book because that's something I learned in America ,that if you want to dine even in McDonalds you almost always have to book a table ...

Amigos Restaurant
The reasons why I recommend the Mexican restaurant Los Amigos are sevenfold. One: Their smoothies and juices. You can ask what they'd recommend to you, or get a little creative and take risks with new blends. If you like ginger ask for a Sol Azteca. Two: Their tacos with chilli and cheese ... Spectacular. Three: Happy hour and tequila. Four: Its concert hall on the ground floor of the restaurant. Five: The excellent customer service from the ever-smiling waiters and waitresses. Six: Its fun and cheerful decoration. Seven: As Sabina would say, no more reasons needed.

The Standard Baking Co.
If you like homemade bread made with sourdough and old style pastries you can not miss this place! If you're in Portland and you think the lobster is insipid, it's time to go to this bakery so that at least dessert will leave a good taste in your mouth. It's located in a red brick market. They have a bakery and they sell to the public too. Each day they make a different bread as proven by the board at the entrance: Oat, mold, figs and anise etc. Break the bank with the goodies made on the day and the delicious cakes: croissants, lemon tarts, chocolate and raisin cookies, carquinyolis, and blueberry muffins. Mmmmm
Culinary Interest in Carmel
Cottage of Sweets
There is nothing better than chocolate. And chocolate in a traditional store, in a charming town, even better! So this little shop, open since 1959, is just perfect. It's very small, packed with sweets and people! Children and tourists pile inside to be able to see all the chocolate. The store is next to The Tea Rose Collection, which I've already described here on Minube!
Restaurants in Bar Harbor
You can't go to Maine without trying lobster. At Geddy's, you choose your own lobster and then it's cooked and served with butter sauce and corn on the cob. The joint is a bit noisy but it has a fun decor and a great atmosphere. It's a touristy place but the prices are still reasonable.
Restaurants in Kennebunkport
Bandaloop is a restaurant in the town of Kennebunkport that sells locally-sourced and seasonal, organic food, both vegetarian and not. My favorite part, though, are the home-made cocktails and the desserts...try the avocado cupcake with the homemade coconut sorbet...amazing!
Restaurants in Ogunquit
Barnacle Billy's
If you enjoy fresh seafood of any kind then this restaurant is a must! Enjoy fresh lobster, clams, oysters and a fantastic view while sitting on the patio at Barnacle Billy's in Ogunquit, Maine. Located in a quaint little village- once a fishing town which abounds with fun little shops and beautiful cape cod style homes. The dining room is huge, but if there is seating outdoors, definitely head there- you can't beat that ambiance anywhere! Watch the fishermen bring in their catch from one direction and enjoy the quiet serenity of the moment from another. Order your lobster of choice and they will bring it to your table. Their clam chowder is famous for the spicy paprika they sprinkle on top. They are closed in the off-season though, so if you're trying to visit October through May it's worth a call first, just to verify that they will be open before you drive out of your way.
Coffee Shops in Stonington
Vault Coffee Roasters
Vault coffee is a new cafe and coffee roaster located in Old Mystic Village. They serve a small selection of pastries as well as their own roasted coffee. The staff are knowledgeable about the roasted beans as well as the color, origin, flavor, and scent of each bean. For the summer they serve root beer and cream soda floats made with their homemade ice cream and locally made soda. For other cool coffee treats try their affogato or purchase their beans to make your own hot or cold creation at home. A coffee lover will certainly want to add this to their trip list - especially as there are few cafes with this quality of coffee in the area.
