There is something very characteristic about Central American buses. Either having been given away or sold at low prices by the U.S. government, they are just old yellow school buses! It is interesting to see, especially in Guatemala, the classic "Nightmare on Elm Street" school bus which have been given a burst of colour and creativity by their new owners. Each bus driver decorates and paints their bus to be more pleasing. They also put on different images of virgins and saints to protect their "ride". There are some who have even used neon colours for nighttime driving! It is quite an experience to ride one of these buses and recommend no other way to discover Guatemala.
