In the heart of the Old Town you'll find the Vesunna Périgueux, a museum designed by the great architect Jean Nouvel. It protects the remains of a decorated and painted Gallo-Roman house. Everyday life and the ancient city are presented through archaeological collections dating back to the 1st century.
Cathedrals in Périgueux
Périgueux Cathedral

Périgueux Cathedral, named "Cathédrale Saint-Front", is the main point of interest of the city, and it has been named a World Heritage Site from UNESCO as part of the Camino de Santiago. Catholic and constructed in the 17th century Romano-Byzantine style, in white stone on the mound, is lovely especially at night when artificial lighting highlights it by calling the attention of everyone in the zone. For many years, is was seat of the Bishop of Périgueux and Sardat, taking into account the importance of this building. It was dedicated to St. Stephen, patron of the city. It left us speechless, different and majestic, considering that we arrived to Périgueux by chance, and never imaged (without prior information) to find a cathedral like this. Of the most recommended places if in the zone.

On our trip between Spain and the UK, with our own vehicle, when passing through France, we discovered this city feeling and medieval atmosphere village... For us it was charming. In fact, we almost always stop there when we go back to the area. Precisely, this area is located in the Aquitaine region, in the Dordogne department, a very nice area. From a long distance away you can see the impressive and colorful cathedral, which certainly marks the center of the historical part of the town. Narrow streets, balconies, quirky street markets (where you can enjoy delicious croissants, pates and cheeses) and the like make this town a very special place. The modern area, as in most places does little to impress. The food of the region enhances the fame of French gastronomy. The town's foundation dates back to Celtic times, later inherited by the Romans, it achieved its historical importance as it officially forms a part and a stop on the Camino de Santiago (French).
