Cooper started to rustle around at 4.30, and so Laura was up by then, and while I was sleeping soundly she noticed something odd: the smell of bacon. Eventually she got back to sleep, and at 7 we were all up again, showered, and ready to get breakfast. Walking into the dining area, we found why she smelled bacon at 4.30 -- the staff had been up since the middle of the night cooking buckets of it. We had our share of bacon, as well as coffee, pastries, granola, and more. We've stayed here several times, and breakfast is a highlight, but so too are the plush beds, big pool, and cheap rates. Note -- this hotel is often bookable through the online bidding and secret deal web sites.

The Kalispell La Quinta is one of the nicer hotels in Kalispell and good for a short stay. Like everywhere in Kalispell, prices are outrageous in the summer but dirt cheap in the fall. The rooms are new-ish and feature tall ceilings, decent furnishings, and plenty of TV options. The hotel is not in a scenic part of town and is not convenient for walking anywhere. The pool is decent and brekkie is OK, but not great. They accept pets and have a small business and fitness center.
