Cloisters of Salzedas Monastery

1 review of Cloisters of Salzedas Monastery

National Monuments of Portugal

The Cloisters of the Monastery of Salzedas are in ruins and usually I don't visit ruins, but I was fortunate to be accompanied by the Councillor for Culture of Tarouca (county seat). The monastery has two cloisters. The first Cloister Adjust, the largest and is in its original location, attached to the south wall of the church. It has a classical structure with arches resting on pilasters and a closed gallery on the top floor windows topped by triangular pediments. It opened the Chapter House, which was covered with tiles (you can still see some fragments), and covered by a groin vault ceiling which bore the crest of the Cistercian order.
