1 review of Count of Barcelos Tomb

impressive tomb

In the nave of the Gospel, next to the door leading to the sacristy of the Church of the Cistercian monastery of San Juan de TAROUCA, there is an impressive tomb. This is the tomb of D. Pedro Afonso, Count of Barcelos and bastard son of Portuguese King Dinis. It's a daunting gothic tomb that weighs 15 tons. The lid is carved with the majestic Count wearing a tunic and wielding a sword in his hands. The bottom has depicts a hunting scene: Three men armed with spears and dogs who are chasing a boar. The chapel where the tomb is situated is covered with tile panels.
