Fountain (Campo da Feira)

This fountain is the most striking and monumental in the city. It's in the central exhibition center (Campo da Feira) and its function was for drinking on market days, both for people and animals. It was designed by João Lopes in 1621 and built of stone. The base is formed by steps which are inserted between the four small sources pipes with tragic masks and flowing water. In the center the tank is round and double cupped, with a high pinnacle which represents, among eagles, the original seal of the city.
