Impressive magnitude
I was shocked by this magnificent work of hydraulic engineering - I don't know if its magnitude is more impressive or its excellent condition. This monumental aqueduct has 999 arches that extend over 4 km from Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde. It starts at Terroso, through the towns of Beiriz and Argivai, and ends at the Convent of Santa Clara in Vila do Conde. Its purpose was to bring water to the monastery, which hints at the enormous importance of this convent. The aqueduct is a National Monument of Portugal and was built 1705-1714.
