Street is lined with shops

The main street of Philipsburg is Front Street, which runs parallel to the Malecon and Great Bay Beach. The street is lined with shops, all tax free, where you can buy jewelry, perfumes, electronics, clothes, etc.. Shops tend to be open continuously throughout the day from Monday to Saturday (some open on Sundays if it reaches a cruise). It's a narrow one-way street with lots of traffic, which is about a mile long. Halfway down is the central Wathey Square, where you'll find the Court House. A little later and you'll come across the Church of St. Martin of Tours, and at the end of the street St.

Maarten Museum. In the opposite, there's the road leading to Fort Amsterdam, the first Dutch military fort in the Caribbean, built in 1631.
