Garibaldi's victory over the French

The hill that rises between Trastevere and the Vatican, to the southwest of the Tiber, enjoys the best views of Rome and is common place for lovers. In Piazza Guisepe Garibaldi the equestrian statue (pictured) commemorates Garibaldi's victory over the French in 1849 when he led the troops of the Roman Republic during the Italian liberation struggle.
