Next to the tourist information office, one can find the Indian Gate, which leads to the gardens of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. During the First World War, the building of the Royal Pavilion, which was a summer house for the English kinds, became a military hospital for those coming from India. India was a British colony which had mobilized its troops to come to Europe to defend them from the enemy. More than 4000 soldiers were treated here, with consideration and respect for different religions and beliefs. For example there were 9 different kitchens where they prepared food for the British, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs.
