In search of the legacy Expo 92 left us in Seville I ventured to the Island of La Cartuja.
Large buildings with massive metal plates of glass continue just barely to the left and right. Many of them have been "recycled" as company headquarters, most in the technology sectors. But there is an earlier building of great beauty and it is the monastery of Santa Maria de las Cuevas, a former Carthusian monk monastery.
At present, every two years it hosts the biennial of contemporary art in Seville and in fact, some pieces are kept there. It is also headquarters of university studies. In one of the indoor courtyards is a copy of ombú, an African tree very spectacular not only for its wingspan but also its branches and aerial roots.
A place to relax on your visit. It has wonderful gardens and spectacular facilities.
