A popular ski resort
Poiana Brasov is located off of Rasnov, when you take the mountain road to get to Brasov. It's in a beautiful forest, and is the most popular ski resort in Romania. Rich Romanian families come here, as well as tourists from Western Europe, attracted by the prices - much lower than the Alps - and the quality of the infrastructure. It is only 1200 metres, but in winter, the snow is great. In ski season, you can head up from Brasov by bus, just 12km. It's better to stay in the charming medieval city than in the rather characterless resort. The season lasts from November to March.
