Lonely and thrilling

It seemed like I had called a fair portion of the population of Northwest Montana asking about Robinson Mountain. One had climbed it, a handful had heard of it, and no one had skied it. I talked to the county road supervisor – twice – asking about road conditions, and a slew of forest service recreation planners and rangers. I highly doubt it was a first descent, but at the same time I wondered who else was left that could have skied it? The actual ascent and descent were fairly straightforward, once you made the end-of-the-road remoteness that marks this place. I spent five hours climbing – could have done it in four but I followed the wrong ridge.
