101 places to eat in New Zealand

Cafés in Queenstown
Bobs Weigh Cafe
A small cafe that probably serves the best coffee in Queenstown, 100% organic, and is complete with delicatessen and sandwiches that are made by Bob's mother, an odd woman and her clothes and style is very quirky yet utterly charming.
Restaurants in Christchurch
The Twisted Hop Pub
(1)
This traditional English brewery produces ales in Christchurch. The menu consists of 6 homemade beers, plus an extensive list of imported beers. The menu indicates what meals go best with each beer, and they have a wide selection of pizzas, meats, fish and salads. Starting at 11 pm the volume of the music rises and becomes one of the liveliest bars in town.
Cafés in Christchurch
The Museum Cafe
This cafe is on the top floor of the museum with a wonderful view of the botanical gardens. This is a perfect place to relax after seeing the myriad of exhibitions and museum artifacts.
Cafés in Auckland
Viva's Cafe
One of the weaknesses of the paradise that is New Zealand is the internet connection. It's slow and often expensive outside of big cities. Finding a free wifi connection is a long shot - bars and cafes rarely offer it. You're better off going to a public library, and you can often see internet users camped in them. But some cafes do have wifi. I particularly like the Viva, located in Auckland at 159 Symonds St Newton Street between Mt Eden and the delightful neighbourhood of Point Chevalier. The Viva is run by New Zealanders of Chinese origin, and in addition to offering free Internet as a service, has superb cuisine at affordable prices. It's a quiet cafe, making it the perfect spot for the traveler who needs a comfortable, pleasant place to bring their laptop and do some work. Obviously the author of this piece hasn't been to every cafe in the country, but I can wholeheartedly recommend Viva.
Restaurants in Coromandel
Coromandel Oyster Company
(1)
On the way to Coromandel from Thames, there is a small shop where you can taste seafood and, in particular, the oysters grown by this company. Exquisite and cheap, a dozen large oysters costs about thirteen dollars or about 7 pennies. You can eat them there or take them to go. Coromandel is known for its seafood and especially oysters, mussels, scallops and lobster. There´s also a seafood feast in August that we´re definitely going to.
Restaurants in Selwyn
Arthur`s Pass Pass Cafe and Store
The only store and one of the few cafes in Arthur `s Pass. It is a small town that crosses the Southern Alps from east to west coast. The Keas, endemic bird to southern New Zealand, often prowl around the terraces for food.
Restaurants in Auckland
Fujisan
(2)
This is a great Japanese restaurant that is pretty cheap (dinner menus cost about € 8 and at noon about 6 €), specializing in Teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi, prepared in front of the people. The owners are very friendly and are always at your disposal.
Restaurants in Rakaia
Salmon Tales Cafe Restaurant & Bar
A slightly kitsch restaurant with a giant salmon statue above the door. It's better known as Rakaia. As well as the restaurant, there are some souvenir shops and a salmon information centre.
Restaurants in Kerikeri
SOUTH 35Grados Restaurant
In the same hangar where cruise ships leave to tour the Bay of Island is this restaurant, shop and aquarium. It is the only luxury restaurant in town and it is curious to visit and delight in the famous island green mussels. All the while you can watch the sunset with dessert or coffee. Dinner is at 7 pm.
Restaurants in Kerikeri
Wharepuke FOOD, Bar Restaurant
They recommended us a place to go for coffee that was a 10 minute walk from th HoneHeke Backpacker Lodge to enjoy the best coffee in Keri Keri. It's in the middle of a subtropical forest with an art gallery. From what we saw later, they had the best lemon pie and cheese in the area. You can also eat there and all products are their own. You can also enjoy a beautiful morning, having coffee in the middle of a forest with live music. If you are Keri Keri, you have to go to this place!
Restaurants in Whangarei
Shiraz Restaurant
The best option to eat in New Zealand is definitely Asian cuisine. Everywhere there are Indian, Thai, Japanese, noodle bar, restaurants etc.. The Shiraz is a cozy restaurant that serves midday menus where for 5 euros you get, curry, naan, tandoori, and all kinds of Indian dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Restaurants in Whangarei
Rice&Noodles Restaurant
A Thai restaurant that has a cheap fixed lunch menu for about 5 € and in any case lunch or dinner cost around 7 euros. I Highly Recommend the Chiang Mais style noodles soup with coconut milk, that has a slightly spicy flavor and fabulous aroma.
Restaurants in Far North
Boatshed Cafe
The boatshed is a cafe literally on the water. It's a wooden hut on stilts, and is both a restaurant, art gallery and souvenir shop. The cakes are homemade and there is great coffee, also there are delicious organic sandwiches
