We arrived in Ourense following the scent of Minho fried eels. After calling a few restaurants in search of the prized delicacy, we heard a lot of no. We decided to park and venture through the old town and, surprisingly, we found the Pingallo, right next to the famous San Miguel. We went in, went around the long bar and, yes, saw lots of eels. The location took us back in time, with a charming staff of typical Galician moods and great food. Even more, the best part was the price! Scallops, eel, broth, grilled octopus, everything.
This is a good place to go for tapas in the old town of Ourense. They offer reasonable prices for well-prepared products, and there is an extensive wine list. The hotel's decor is original, mixed with stone elements. The place has a restaurant and terrace and has won different awards for "pincho" competitions in the city.
This cafe is in the historical and pedestrianized centre, just opposite the tourist office and the Plaza del Padre Feijoo, which is great for grabbing brochures and a map. We decided to sit in the pleasant terrace to have breakfast while we planned the day. It's a very large traditional cafe, whose interior is decorated in early 20th century style with large chandeliers, frescoes and wooden chairs and walls. It has two floors, with a gorgeous turned wood staircase to access the top floor. It specializes in breakfast and snacks, as they have assortment of pastries, shakes and sundaes.
Located in the old town of Orense, this traditional Galician food restaurant is one of the most valued by locals, which says enough. Its decor is rustic, which gives a great feeling of warmth, and coupled with the wines from their extensive cellar, it made us feel very comfortable. The service was impeccable. The dishes were delicious and beautifully presented, all factors of which make it a winning choice for lunch or dinner in the city centre.
In the Camiños Catro restaurant in Santa Cruz, Ourense, the weekends and holidays are spent in "Pulperos" where I've had the best octopus ever. I ordered in the tent and were served in the restaurant. The value for money is great. I recommend stopping if you are in the area because it's worth it.
I definitely recommend that you visit this restaurant. It has a great wine selection from Galicia, not only white wine but red too. The tripe with chickpeas, potato omelette, Galician empanada and its various stews and squid are all spectacular.
This is a great place for tapas and wines, just outside the city centre. Its outside does not match the quality of the food inside. There are a variety of wines to choose from. It is quite busy at weekends, with young people from Ourense.
This shop is my downfall! It's a franchise with locations all around the peninsula, and I was lucky to find one in Ourense, right next to the Church of San Francisco, in front of Parque de San Lazaro. They sell all kinds of products made with cocoa, from the typical chocolate bars (white, black, flavoured with strawberry, mint or orange) to jam with cocoa, chocolates in a thousand flavors and shapes, chocolate tarts with fruits, nuts, chocolate fondue, spirits, and even beer products or personal hygiene products. The product presentation is truly spectacular, you want to buy everything. Be careful though, the prices are very high and you can spend €50 easily. Yes, it's all delicious, and it's well worth buying something.
The food was outstanding food and the service was superior. If you can, make reservations for dinner on the terrace, where you'll discover a paradise in the middle of Orense. To get there, you should go to the parking del Carmen, and from there, you can enter directly onto the terrace. Enjoy! It's a great place!
Exquisite cuisine and excellent views. Best grilled sardines I have ever eaten. The other fish and seafood on the menu is also great. A dinner that would cost 60 euros in Bilbao, cost under 30 euros here. The restaurant is in a charming farmhouse in a stunning natural setting, with oaks, hills and beaches all around. We had a splendid time.
A few meters from the Cathedral, we had breakfast at this lively cafe filled with Ourense's history and tradition. Its decor has maintained its openness for over 25 years. But not only has its decor made it distinguishable from other cafes, its peculiarity lies in the live jazz concerts performed here. It usually annually hosts good programs of this type of music with artists of international renown. Now, it's developing the XVII Spring Festival.
