Restaurante Rias Baixas

I have been there around five or six times and it has always been spectacular. The menu for two is amazing, I always remember the first time, lots of years ago, I went there: neither my wife nor I had any idea of how to eat crabs. I was trying to eat it when suddenly ms. Carmen came, reproached me how wrong I was dealing with it and started to teach me how to do it. We started talking, told her we came from Barcelona and she said she supported Barça, while her husband supported Real Madrid. I told her I would send a Barça flag, since there was a lot of stuff there but of Real Madrid... I finally did, and when I, later, came back to the restaurant, it was holding on the wall.

What would you think of having a good seafood menu? This restaurant is one of my favorites in Vigo, a city that I visit several times per year... Located in the city center and really close to the port and the pubs area, it just has a problem: sometimes it's overcrowded and they do not take reservations, so it is better to be there quite soon to get a table (around 21 - 21.30 to have dinner). It has smoking room except on Sunday mornings; as the owner told us, that's when a lot of elderly people come so they get sick because of the smoke. The place is quite seedy, has no decoration at all and seems more like a tavern. The secret is the food and, moreover, the prices. The best is the special menu for two: seafood with spider crab, grilled prawns, vinaigrette mussels, clams, oysters, crabs and steamed cockles. Plus two dishes to choose; I normally take ham or some grilled fish. As a dessert, filloas (galician dessert) with cream and chocolate syrup and a bottle of Ribeiro. All for 60 €. Magnificient quality and excessive quantity! The service was also fast and eficient. The waiter even reminds me, he's so nice. So, no doubts: 10 points for Rías Baixas. I'll definitely come back!

Oysters in A Pedra
(35)
Close to Vigo's old town and the sea, there is Pedra (The Stone), a typical place in Vigo with Oysters Street, full of seafood restaurants, where the specialty and the most wanted dish is the famous oysters. They're usually ordered by the dozen and come in wooden oyster boxes to go, accompanied by an Albariño or a Ribeiro wine. As a tortilla lover, I am a huge fan of this place. When traveling to Vigo for work, I often look for cheap and quality places to eat, and this is one of them. And the pizza-tortilla (I think they call it an American omelet) and pasta salad are phenomenal. In short, simple and tasty cuisine.

El Gallinero

El Gallinero is a theme restaurant near the port of Vigo and one of my favorite places to eat in the city. The specialty as the name (it means "The Chicken Coop") implies are eggs and chicken prepared in every possible way. Chicken fricassee, chicken breast cutlets, fried chicken, and tons of other dishes. They also have a variety of salads and daily menu.

we went here for Christams dinner with about 11 euros. It was 25 euros for the menu. The service was exquisite, but the food was not good. I think that the chef did not do a good job choosing the menu as the meat was tough, the cod was tasteless, and the scallops I think were in some kind of white sauce ... Anyway, I have to admit that I dined there a different time and it was normal.

Pizzeria Chicote

This bar has a huge space and is very centrally located. They have delicious pizzas at a good price and fast service. However, they tried to charge us for a ration of bread that we didn't ask for and didn't eat (ve eats bread with pizza?). We felt awful and it cost the waiters their well deserved tip.

Restaurante Follas Novas

This central site is one of the best in Vigo for value and price. There's only one problem, you need to make a reservation because the restaurant is not very big and it's always full. I recommend beans, steak, toast, and the skewered monkfish and prawns.

Cafeteria Castellanos

Vigo needed a cafeteria and a nice place, where you can talk with exquisite decor and a touch of distinction. It needed to be different from what we are used to seeing, with good waiters, clean, and good coffee, good beer and exquisite pastries, and normal prices. I can not stop commenting on the corner for the little ones and the corner with sofa and library. Another point to make is that there is no slot machines, this is the place to go. Congratulations to the person who thought of this great idea. It is a charming place, not very big but their appetizers are delicious, and you can choose from steak, chicken and cheese or tortillas! The bad thing is that there are no reservations and you generally have to wait, and the good is that there is parking right behind! La Porchaba

I do not know if we hit the mark with what we ordered or if everything else is just as good...It's a tapas bar and there's there typical food: tortilla, bulls tail, grilled mushrooms. But we ordered cuttlefish with garlic mayonnaise, and it was great. And sirloin tips with la porchaba sauce was delicious! Spicy but tender! Ideal to nibble on!

Looking for a new place for dinner in Vigo I found this place. It was my first experience with arepas and they were very good, I couldn't finish everything. The location is in the alley next to the hotel, a bit hidden but highly recommended.

Detapaencepa

A tapas bar in the city center very close to the Corte Ingles department store, linking rustic decor with modern lines, creating a truly comfortable environment. It's divided into two areas - one for tapas, and upstairs, a comfortable restaurant. Traditional Galician cuisine is emphasised, with homemade ingredients and modern innovations. It offers a menu of the day for 14 €. Closed on Sunday evenings.

Café Soportales has a nice terrace where you can sit out in the historical part of the city. The decor is all wood and stone and there are lots of old decorative signs advertising old cognacs. They also a room for art exhibits. A great choice if you want to have a drink in a historic atmosphere.

Bocatería "La Lira"

Here you can eat a very good home-made hamburger. I also have always liked the patatas bravas and croquettes. This is located near Crossing Mall but a little out of the center in the upper area. It is well connected by bus because Vigo is parallel to the street and buses on calle Aragon called circular cross it constantly.

Restaurante La Portuaria

This is my favorite restaurant. During the month of March, you can have a meal here for just two euros! The restaurant is great, large and spacious with an outdoor terrace and lovely views from the first floor. What more could you want? The menu consists of a starter: Broccoli with cream, pizza or croquettes and a main course that can be pasta or rice. Needless to say, the drink and dessert or coffee is separate.

Cambalache

In the financial heart of the city and opposite the emblematic church of Santiago de Vigo, lies this Argentine-Italian restaurant. The menu offers pizzas and pasta dishes, with a wide range of sauces. I recommend the macaroni with cream cheese, bacon and parmesan, the cannelloni, and vegetable lasagna. For dessert, try the tiramisu or nut brownie. Oh, they also serve pizzas to go, and as for prices, it's within a normal range. Price € 15.
