5 places to eat in Mankato

Cafés in Mankato
Wine Cafe
Stop into the Wine cafe for a glass of wine, a bottle with friends (over 150 wines,70+ imported and domestic beers, and a full service bar.) or just a quick bite to eat. There is a full menu for lunch and dinner. Stop in midday and take advantage of their lunch specials- if you search online you can usually come up with an additional coupon to make your dining experience that much cheaper (not recommended if on a first date!) Not sure how you feel about wine and want to learn more? Once a month they host a wine tasting for $10 that will help give you an idea of what flavors and types of wine you prefer. (They do require reservations for this event). Two large spaces make up this wine cafe and bar. The back area can be rented out for parties of up to 40, but can also make for a great area to wine and dine if you're just interested in escaping from the rest of the bar. An outside patio is available as well. Open Monday through Sunday from 11 am until 2 am. Live music and entertainment on the weekends, usually with two different bands playing on Saturday nights. Enjoy or participate in the karaoke every Thursday night starting at 9pm

Swing by for a breakfast cinnamon roll- the most popular in Mankato, or grabs sound and panini sandwich on your lunch break. You can get it to go to enjoy back at work or at the nearest park, or grab one of the four tables inside to people watch as you enjoy the flavors. My favorite soup is a flavorful Mix that includes ginger and chicken broth, among many other vegetables! Started as a bakery they sell loaves of bread and other great specialty loaves. They will also make special order cakes or large orders of other sweets.

La Terraza
Mexican food in an upscale setting. Chips and salsa served the minute you sit down and great service the whole time. The food is somewhat mediocre, too many tortilla chips in the tortilla soup and unimpressive quesadillas, but it's got a great patio space and an extensive menu of different types of margaritas. The indoor part of the restaurant is nice and clean, but a bit dark - so maybe a good spot for a date!!?

Neighbor's Italian Bistro
If you have ever been upset by a long wait for a table then this is the place for you- free wine while you wait! It's almost worth planning a meal there during "rush hour" in order to get a free glass or two (house wine only). Of course it's not always busy when you would expect it to be, so don't let not waiting in line disappoint you either. Although it's one of the "fancier" restaurants in Mankato you certainly don't need to dress up to eat here. The food is great- loaded down with cheese in several cases, which is great if you like dairy! The service can be a bit spotty, so don't be afraid to summon their attention if you need something.

Olives Restaurant
Don't be fooled by its location as a hotel restaurant- Olive's by Massads is where you can go to get a great Mediterranean meal full of delicious ingredients. Their lamb is spiced perfectly and definitely worth ordering. If you can't decide what you want to order there are two options like the seafood trio that gives you a glimpse into several different flavor varieties. On Monday nights they have a special date night deal where an appetizer, two select entrees and a dessert are included in a $30 price. Definitely one of the best restaurants in the Mankato area.
