Cafés in Greenville
Kilwins Chocolates, Fudge & Ice Cream
Kilwins is an excellent spot to grab some desert as you walk down Main Street in Greenville, SC. They have traditional flavors of ice cream as well as some inventive flavors you may not find very often. Spend some time browsing their racks of delectable treats and chocolate. Try samples of ice cream flavors you may not have had before. One of their most popular flavors was the toasted coconut. Together with thick chocolate chips, I thought it was a refreshing combination on a humid day. I finally settled on their cappuccino and chocolate chip in a waffle bowl. The ice cream was flavorful without an overpowering coffee flavor that other brands sometimes have. The store owner makes the waffle cones herself which was what finally swayed me to get my ice cream in a bowl. There is a popular square right outside of the shop where patrons can relax and enjoy some people watching. During the day, music plays from the outdoor speakers.

Acropolis Restaurant
Acropolis is a Greek and Italian restaurant that focuses more on their Greek dishes than the Italian. The atmosphere is very welcoming and there's Greek-inspired decor, columns, and even a private seating area which makes this a great place for families or a date night. There are also a fair number of people who just want to enjoy their meal solo. The gyros were excellent. There were plenty of ingredients to pile onto the pita bread. The meat was fresh and cucumber sauce was definitely their own recipe. The restaurant touts that their philosophy is fresh ingredients make good food. The meal tasted great and the staff was attentive to keeping our drinks filled. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, but it's not very busy during the week day. One can still get the relaxation of sitting outdoors and people watching without an abundance of distractions.

Tako Sushi
Tako Sushi on Main Street in downtown Greenville offers fish tacos, and of course, sushi. They have happy hours from Monday through Friday where you can get tacos for around $2 a piece. Two tacos will do a good job of satisfying your appetite. The have a three taco dinner platter that will more than fill you up! The fish tacos are filled using tilapia. I liked the grilled version better, but my husband and his friend preferred the fried version. It can get a little bit messy as the tacos are pretty filled. Keep your napkin close at hand! They do have other menu items, but most people come here for the fish tacos. They have a full bar and offer a variety of sake, Japanese beers, and other Asian drinks. Like many of the Main Street restaurants, Tako Sushi features outdoor seating. The pillars in front make it difficult to see the sign until you are right in front of the restaurant, so you do need to pay closer attention as you approach the corner of the block.
Cafés in Greenville
Coffee Underground
Coffee Underground was my favorite spot to get excited for my day! The coffee shop seems small when you first walk in, but there is plenty of room to find a comfortable spot. If you are not staying to dine or take advantage of their wifi, be sure to ask for a to-go cup. Otherwise, enjoy your coffee from a real mug. I enjoyed their breakfast sandwich, but there are other options for eggs, omelets, and pastries. Ask for an Internet password when you purchase your food. There is an eclectic mix of people who take advantage of this retreat to conduct business, study, and catch up with friends. Most of the tables only have room for two. This is definitely a place to go by your self or meet just a few other people. One thing I absolutely loved about this place is the fact that they have a quiet room. There is a sign at the entrance marked with deep red velvet curtains the no one under 18 is allowed in the room. Many students from the local colleges can be found there, typing away on laptops and reading. On Sundays, the quiet room is used to seat families for their Sunday brunch.

Smoke on the Water
Smoke on the Water has been a part of the long list of restaurants on Main Street for a long time. Their traditional Southern Barbecue is a must for any visitor. Four different sauces are on the table for customers to experiment with and enjoy. The mustard base is a typical sauce for this region. It was also my personal favorite. It had just the right amount of spice without being hot. They have local brews on tap along with popular domestic and international beers. A full bar is available as well as soft drinks, water and tea's. There is no kid's menu, but just ask your server as they are very good about accommodating your needs to the best of their ability. This is a popular choice for locals. Expect to wait for your table. They do have shaded outdoor seating, and people may bring their canine companions to enjoy an outdoor meal.
