The Santa Catalina pools are near San Antonio Aguas Calientes. They are about 10km from Antigua Guatemala. The best thing to do is to go by bike or tuc tuc to make the most of the landscape at your leisure. You will pass through coffee fields and beautiful farms with perfectly restored colonial houses with courtyards with fountains. The only thing is that heading to San Antonio, is quite low and it can be difficult to get back up on bike. Once in San Antonio, you'll go through the craft market which is well known and traditional where the art of weaving will be explained. What someone wears determines their social status in the community. Then you get to the pools which are at the foot of the volcano, then there are three pools, the highest is the smallest, the largest has slides down, but do not expect much. It is a very beautiful place, with beautiful views where you get to make a steak. There are tables and chairs. The entrance cost is 2 euros, and you can also buy some food on Sundays, but it is packed with more people and it is better to go during the week.
It seemed like a hidden Mayan paradise which was refreshing and welcoming. It is a wonderful experience. There were interactive pools, many slides, children's pool, lazy river and always a smile and service from the excellent staff.
