Nature Reserves in Roses
Cap de Creus
(45)
This experience’s title is in the form of a question because a film called ‘The Light at the Edge of the World’ was recorded in this area in 1971 with Kirk Douglas, Yul Brynner, Fernando Rey and Massimo Ranieri. It was based on the Jules Verne novel. Anyway, Cape Crues, the Creus Lighthouse, and the Natural Reserve form a fabulous triad, and is one of my favorite places in all of Spain. If you have the choice, it’s better to go in Spring or Fall, because it’s become too popular in summer. With all the summer tourist traffic, it has become impossible to find a parking place. There are two restaurant-bars next to the lighthouse. The one that’s actually built inside of the lighthouse is the bigger (and also the more expensive of the two). I recommend going to the building further away. The prices are better and the food is better. There are various hiking trails throughout the park. One will take you to Cadagues. Almost a 20 km trip (counting both ways). If you’re looking for adventure, you can sleep in Cabo and be the first on the Iberian Peninsula to see the sunrise!

A sandy beach where you can walk without fear of sinking - ideal for couples with children. The most curious and typical food is suquet de peix (fish soup) and walk around the recently closed El Bulli de Ferrando Adria. Predominately French for being so close and the weather is great.

Beach Canyelles

Roses has an idyllic location on a bay with clear water, although it has become a center of mass tourism. Innumerable developments and hotels, almost all with amazing views, crowd a single road ending at Puig-Rom viewpoint. However, there are still corners that, although part of the seaside city, provide relaxation. One is the small, secluded Canyelles beach, a slice of blue flag golden sand where, besides swimming, you can take the first lessons in kayaking and windsurfing.

Beach in the morning, mid-day nap, afternoon walks and a nightcap in the evening. A small town with a great atmosphere and sites like the photo that invite you to sit back and watch. A family holiday.

Megalithic Set
(4)
Roses, in Girona, is a location that perfectly has beach, culture and historical tourism. One attractions is the Megalithic, you can take several routes. We struggled to find it because nothing was marked and it's in an area with many villas and barking dogs, you can not ask any neighbors because there's no one on the street. As the first you find dolmen, and then follow the path and see the megalithic monuments. The sets are well preserved in general. The views of the beach, Rose Bay and the town are quite nice because you see everything. Contact with nature is full, it is a joy to move from a tourist area to a path where you hardly see anybody. It is pretty empty every day because it is a bit far from the city center and I recommend going by car because walking is a good way. No doubt, this is a summer destination, but if you have time go through Begur, it has a spectacular bays that dominate the region. Curiously, between Roses and Cadaqués I thought I saw a dolmen. I hope to go back one day.

Punta Falconera is a wonderful place on the coastal town of Roses on the Costa Brava. South of it arises from Cap de Creus where you can see the full extent of Roses Bay. The Punta Falconera is part of the Natural Park of Cap de Creus with a wealth of land and sea.

From Roses, you can have a relaxing weekend. Calm, clear water and fine white sand. Good Mediterranean delicacies in its Santa Llucia beachfront restaurant, affordable prices and good service.

The Lighthouse of Roses
(5)
The Roses lighthouse was built in 1864, as indicated on its white tower, and is on a small hill below Trinitat castle. In the past it had dual role of lighthouse and watchtower (to monitor enemy fleets). The lighthouse is now fully automated, and as usual, the part of the house, about 300 m2, is closed up tight and poorly maintained, while the watchtower is in perfect condition. Roses promenade goes past the lighthouse on its way to Cadaqués, so I recommend stopping here to enjoy the fantastic views from its privileged vantage point.

Markets in Roses
Medieval Market
Visiting a Medieval Market is always something that reminds you of childhood, a time spent with secrets or adventures. The town of Roses during Holy Week can be very nice for a walk around this medieval market because you can find different stalls, tastes, smells, etc. The major attraction of these markets are the craft products for sale, as well as the great gastronomy. From an economic point of view, prices are rather more expensive than you can find in the supermarkets. It was a shame it rained when we were there but we could still walk along the promenade enjoying the sea breeze. Roses is a city that still feels like it is part of the Middle Ages.
Statues in Roses
Monument to the Fisherman
It's a long time since I visited Roses but certainly, I still remember it with pleasure. Unfortunately, it was a very rainy day but we took our walks on the promenade. It is worth traversing its length and is an ideal place for athletes. There is a very attractive monument that is part of the art and inspiration of the great Catalan artists. Also I remember a little dirty and neglected looking monument. The people walk daily in front of this monument but don't show it much attention because it's in the vicinity of the Citadel, which is certainly the most representative monument of Rosas. This town has many treasures as the Megalithic de Rosas, a worthwhile tour is a stroll to enjoy nature and the Bay of Roses.

Karting Roses
(4)
On a windy day in the city of Roses, we decided to Roses Karting track. It's amazing, the track is 850 meters with karts and 270 cm3, and can reach a speed of 85 km/h. The track also has a circuit for children, a bar and a large terrace to peacefully watch the races.
