1 review of Dalian

Long history

Dalian is a major city of Liaoning Province with a population of 6.5 million. It´s located northeast of China. It is quite cold in winter and moderate in summer which means that, despite having an extensive sea coast, it isn´t really a place for a beach holiday. As a strategic port between the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea, it has a long history. This land has seen a lot of blood fall: In 1858 it was taken by the British troops and then returned to China in 1880, when which, it seems, it was christened Dalian. Later it was occupied by the Japanese, then between 1898 and 1905, by the Russians. They changed the name of the city to Dalny and it became the most important city to Russia in the Pacific as it became a branch to the Trans-Siberian Railway (Dalian never came to belong to the main line, however).
