Penzberg

Penzberg is a nice quiet town of about 14,000 inhabitants which was originally a mining town. The village is almost all newly constructed, even the church is modern. I was surprised by the tranquility and sense of safety that permeates - the houses have no locks and traders leave their products on the street unattended. On November 9, the town held a kind of fair where children made lanterns and all the houses were decorated with them. The village is about an hour from Munich by train or half hour drive. It is also close to the Alps and Lake Stamberger which is fantastic.
