Plaza de la Constitución

1 review of Plaza de la Constitución

Large square

One of the largest squares in the center of Athens, a very convenient place to go to and from the modern center and the old center. The subway station is Syntagma, meaning constitution in Greek, and a variety of buses that run all night to the suburbs from the old center, where there are more bars and restaurants. In the square 95 buses also depart for the airport, a 24-hour service, which in less than an hour brings you to the Venizelos International Airport. In the square is the parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Every Sunday, with another half a million people, attend the changing of the guard, a ceremony interesting, at 11 am, with pompoms and long robes billowing in the wind, some fifty soldiers accompanied by an orchestra come to relieve two soldiers guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier, and replace them with more fresh guys.
