Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

3 reviews of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

Haven for sea lions

This reserve, which is a few kilometers from the town of Carmel By-the-Sea, is designed to preserve the delicate natural ecosystem of this stretch of the Pacific coast. It's a haven for many species of flora and fauna, including sea lions and the rare Monterey cypress. Several paths take you around the most beautiful area of the park, including Bird Island. The water is cold all year round, but the views of the emerald coves are breathtaking, and you'll see a large colony of seabirds and sea otters. Another interesting route is the 30 minute Cypress Grove Trail, often shrouded in fog during the

Summer season.

Nature Reserve lungho the highway 1 just south of Monterey maybe not famous, but missed. You can walk along the cliffs that overlook the ocean between rare pine and cypress trees and enchanting coves. And if walking in silence (accompanied only by sea lions 'howl' and give the name to the park 'point of Wolves') you will discover a rich fauna: deer, birds of prey, otters, seals. Worth a detour and a few hours to be appreciated (go there in the late afternoon, when the sun is lower).
