Town Hall Square Wismar

1 review of Town Hall Square Wismar

Important town square

Great

Just like any city hall in Europe, Wismar also presents a space filled with market stalls and buildings of great significance.

Perhaps the one that most caught my attention was called the Water Pavilion. It is a 12-sided building, that is bell-shaped and topped by a six-sided lantern. Ranks of an old wooden pit, whose history is reflected in iron plates in Latin and German, and gave water to more than 220 households.

Apart from the City Hall, several houses here are of vital importance in on Unesco's list of brick buildings in Von Mecklenburg Pomerania. Located on the east side of Wismar market, is the "Old Swedish", one of the most beautiful buildings in the late Gothic style. The brick building was built around 1380 and is decorated with with stepped pinion and detailed windows on the upper floors. In 1878 the building received its nickname "der Alter Schwede" and then it began to serve as an inn.
