Typical Breton creperie. Its specialties are the galettes de ble noir, or buckwheat. The cookies are savory crêpes and the white wheat ones are sweet. The galette is ham, egg and cheese (costs 4.90 euros), the galettes in the area also have a sausage called andouille Baye (costs 8.50 euros). You can also try the Breton cider. This market can be found opposite of Rennes.
Quatre B is a great restaurant in Rennes. I like the sophisticated decor ... and that's without mentioning the presentation of the dishes, which are just beautiful! There are several menus to choose from, for 21 or 27 euros, and a fixed, 3-course menu of the day for 12. The house specialties: veal sweetbreads with morels, lobster ravioli, foie gras with mango ... and of course, the famous chocolate cake. Don't miss it!
This tavern is near the dock in the centre of the city of Rennes. There are several menus to choose from, with specialties including seafood, sauerkraut, grilled beef steak ... a good restaurant to try out.
Located between the City Hall Square and the maritime promenade, this spot has great decoration. There are some unusual objects on display here, like the huge trunk of flowers ... the menu is full of delicious food, like duck, and apple tart with fruit ...
The Cafe Breton, at number 14, Rue Nantes a Rennes, is like an old hardware store. I just love the decor at the front of the room, with blue walls and grey tables. The interior has an old leather sofa and wooden shelves, and the menu is varied and changes regularly. On the menu: salads, sandwiches, stew, pork shoulder. Remember to book ... prices are quite high ...
This is a great bar/pub with a large terrace. It's the ideal spot to enjoy a good beer while enjoying the afternoon sun. The inside is really beautiful, with a large round bar. They offer beers, shots, cocktails and spirits, and it's popular with students at night.
This is a very beautiful restaurant near the Quatre B. It has very contemporary decor in grey and red velvet, and specialises in grilled meats and fish. Some of the dishes that caught my eye included fish and chips, grilled sirloin, marinated meat skewers, XXL steak ... and they have a great wine list, too.
I love this rather unusual restaurant. Its decor is all based around the theme of school, with some old maps and books, slates, and compasses ... it's very evocative of childhood memories. There's a terrace outside, and the food is delicious, and for quite reasonable prices. Popular for lunch or dinner.
If you love Breton cuisine, this place is for you. The food here is truly delicious. Prices are reasonable, and they have good quality wine. The presentation of the food is perfect, and although the restaurant doesn't appear to be anything special from the outside, it really is worth a visit. The drawback is that it's very popular, so be sure to book in advance.
I really like this restaurant/bar. It has beautiful decor, with stone walls, and modern purple colours. The salads are delicious, and they do great oysters, goat's cheese with honey, shrimp with parsley ... it's hard to choose what you want to eat!
A great place to stop for a coffee break. They offer an amazing cappuccino, with a mixture of coffee, chocolate, chocolate sauce, and Mikado sticks. You really must try it! Located in the centre of Rennes, here, you can try a wide variety of coffees and different foods. It has 35 seats.
If you go to Rennes, then you can't miss a visit here! Aux Capriches de Suzette is where you can find chocolates and cakes, candied almonds, chocolate crumbles, lemon tarts ... for lunch you can enjoy pancakes, pastries, or salads. The prices are very low. Closed Sundays.
The Pizzeria Da Pietro is in the centre of Rennes. It's a simple pizzeria, with pretty nice decor and decent Italian food. You can take away if you prefer. As well as pizza, they serve fresh pasta, ravioli, casseroles, chops, Italian sausage ... the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
I really like this charming creperie. It has a great interior, and a good location, very close to the subway and the new cinema complex. The menu offers a wide selection of homemade cakes, and the dishes are accompanied by Breton cider or beer. It's open Monday to Saturday.
A good spot for pizza lovers. The staff are warm and friendly, and they have two types of pizza - one with tomato, and the other with cream. I really like the pizziflette (a pizza tartiflette), which is delicious and quite filling ...
