Rio Ranch Cafe
(1)
Rio Ranch is a family restaurant, a kind of Tex-Mex diner. On the menu you can find everything from burgers to enchiladas and a wide variety of tacos. The restaurant owner is Johnny, a Mexican who has spent half his life cooking in Texas and has learned to create the best of the flavors of both countries. The service is fast and very friendly with waitresses that display typical southern kindness, a little old-fashioned but charming.

Grape Juice
After five years spending the summer in this part of Texas, I thought the only good places to eat where the King Ranch or the local BBQ joints. I had heard about Grape Juice and never gave it much of a though, but I finally went and I loved it! The concept of Grape Juice is a beer and wine tasting bar where you can also get simple meals that are based on traditional flavors but generally have a modern twist. The sophisticated-chic decor is uncommon in the Hill Country and the shelves of wines in the windows keep the sun out so the interior is nice and intimate. The interior is dominated by the large bar offering 20 different beers and wine from around the world. If you're doubtful about which wine to order, go for a local Texan wine! The line-up of beers and wines on offer changes regularly, but I had an absolutely delightful Texan white. On the menu, they offer everything from soups and salads to warps and pasta to fish and meat. They have an outdoor terrace outback which is decorated with Christmas lights hung from the trees. We ordered hummus as a starter which, while good, was a tad soupy for my tasted. I got the antelope sliders with goat cheese and chimichurri for an entree which came with a choice of soup or salad (I got a delicious watermelon gazpacho). The sliders were great. Antelope is a bit tougher than beef but it's packed with flavor and the cheese and chimichurri really complement the gamey taste. All the ingredients are locally-sourced and they offer local game like antelope, quail, and badger. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout the meal. All in all, Grape Juice offers a wide selection of quality food and drink in an environment that could be described as Texan chic. The dinner goes for about $25-30.00 per person, with drinks.

Taqueria Jalisco
The Jalisco Taqueria is located on the Guadalupe River in Kerrville. You can eat indoors, watching the river through the large windows, or if you prefer you can sit at a table on the terrace and enjoy the weather from the shade of an umbrella. The restaurant workers are mostly Mexican. The service is quick, the food good, and fairly priced. You can eat for less than $10 with drinks. Open all day, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. A good choice.

Acapulco Mexican Restaurant
Kerrville is full of restaurants where you can stop for a bite to eat. My favorite is the Acapulco Mexican Restaurant. It is open from 6:30am (Sundays at 11:00am), until 9:00pm. The restaurant is huge and the good is cheap and tasty. There are great lunch combos for less than $8.00 (I got two beef tacos with rice and beans).
