Cathedrals in Burgos
Burgos Cathedral
(167)
Construction on the cathedral in Burgos began in 1221 under Fernando III, the King of Castilla, and was dedicated in 1765 with the construction of the towers and the dome. The long time it took to build this gothic cathedral gives it a unique architectural coherence due to the changes in styles and influences over the centuries. It has four entrances. The basilica has three chambers surrounded by thirteen precious chapels and a cross chamber that measures 70 meters wide. It is the same height as the central chamber and forms a Latin cross.

The Cartuja of Miraflores Monastery

We talked about this place at the tourist office in Burgos. It is in Fuentes Blancas Park. It was commissioned by Queen Isabella in the XV century, in 1441, and later suffered in fire. Of particular interest is the altarpiece and the tomb of Juan II and Isabella of Portugal, with a third party, Prince Alfonso de Castilla. Today it is still inhabited by Carthusian monks, who have displayed some important paintings that were in the cloister, for tourists. Worth seeing. We recommend it.
Villages in Orbaneja del Castillo
Castle Orbaneja
(51)
A small town located in the province of Burgos with hardly 50 citizens. It’s one of the most beautiful places in Burgos. Visitors hear the sound of the waterfall in the background of their visit, as it lies in the center of town and is the undisputed protagonist of the urban development. The crystalline waters sprout up from the Cueva de Agua (Water Cave), a cavern that open in the rocky cliff that presides over the town and divides it in two parts: village and town. This cave, that forms a part of the interesting Orbaneja complex, is the natural exit of the underground water system in the area. It's a charming place that's worth visiting.

The arch was built on an ancient tower in the thirteenth century. The main facade was created by Francisco de Colonia and Juan de Vallejo. The works were made from 1536 to 1553 and were finished off with the sculptures of Ochoa de Arteaga. Numerous figures are shown in the alterpiece: Carlos, El Cid and Fernan Gonzalez (centre); Diego Porcelos, Nuño Rasura and Lain Calvo (lower); the city guardian angel and Santa Maria (top). You can visit the inside of the church. Formerly it was used as a meeting room for the council. Since 1994 it features as an exhibition.

Forest This promenade is the most popular of all in Burgos. It was created in the late 17th century and connects the Arco de Santa Maria with the Teatro Principal, defining the historical district. La Yecla and Sabinares of Arlanza
(22)
The Yecla is a small gorge where you can go explore via a path after you pass the tunnel next to it, that is. We took a little walk down there to see it and take some photos, but we didn't see anything particularly noteworthy. But we liked the place and it made for some interesting pictures.

Viewpoint of the Castle
(28)
The viewpoint of the castle is a must when you are in Burgos. Its views of the city are spectacular, now, I recommend that if you visit on a hot day you do drive, although it has many well kept parks. On the semicircle of the gazebo, you will find various monuments printed with directions included. Highly recommended.

Museums in Burgos
Human Evolution Museum
(29)
The MEH is a must when you visit in Burgos. It is a modern museum, well maintained and with an unparalled historical interest, features that make it one of the best in Spain. Just the building itself is amazing. Inside, we take a quick look at our progress and learn more of our ancestors. There is very interesting visual work inside and its structure, in many plants, is interesting. An ideal complement to this visit is a visit to Atapuerca, which was just what we did.
Waterfalls in Valle de Tobalina
Pedrosa de Tobalina
(17)
This place is ideal in the summer! On our tour of the Burgos town of Frias, it was recommended to us to go to Tobera, which is right next to Frías and where there are really striking waterfalls from the Molinar River. Due to the passage of time and the topography of the place itself, one of the most remote places has been created, like something out of movies. The place was full of children and young people jumping from the cliffs and enjoying the cool river water.

Las Huelgas Royal Monastery
(29)
My partner is from Burgos and we go there frequently to visit family. Although I´ve seen quite a few things from there, I had not yet seen this wonder, Las Huelgas Monastery ... I was so impressed. The size of this monastery is incredible as are the luxuries inside. I learned some very interesting things .... For example, it is the only museum that has the oldest civilian clothing in the world ... Inside is spectacular, the stalls, the organ of the main chapel, the tapestries, the brochures, the arches, the vaults ... Definitely worth the visit ...
Squares in Burgos
Plaza Mayor
(13)
Enchanting! Although we knew that the capital of Castilla y León is Valladolid, it has nothing to envy of Burgos. This square is one of the things that gives you reason to visit Valladolid one hundred times over. It is lovely; the colourful houses, the little shops ...
