Bars in Put-in-Bay
Mojito Bay
Mojito Bay in Put-in-Bay, Ohio is a popular outdoor Tiki Bar where you can get an assortment of beverages, including mojitos, of course! It is a bar that is fully open to the outdoor elements, which is great for those hot summer nights. It is shaded by a giant wooden Tiki hut and the bar is in the middle. You'll immediately notice that there is sand beneath your feet, and there are wooden swings completely surrounding the bar. You can also sit at a variety of wooden tables beneath the hut or picnic tables around it. One of the best drinks to get here is a pre-mixed slushy alcoholic beverage that tastes like an orange Creamsicle! There is a huge menu of different flavors of mojitos to get, too. And if beer is more your style, they have that a well! There is non-stop entertainment at the bar as well, as singers and guitarists play up on the bar. This is a great place to go with friends for an unforgettable evening!
Historical Monuments in Put-in-Bay
South Bass Island Lighthouse
South Bass Island Lighthouse is at the far southern tip of Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island in Ohio. The easiest way to reach the lighthouse is by foot, bicycle, or golf cart. You could drive to it as well, but many people don't bring their vehicles to Put-in-Bay as there isn't much room for parking. Walking around the exterior of the lighthouse is quite lovely as you get a gorgeous view of the lake and a rocky beach. Lighthouse lovers will be attracted to this building, as you can take tours here occasionally and climb the 42 steps to the top. Ohio State University now owns the lighthouse, except for the original lens that is on display at the Lake Erie Island Historical Museum. The lighthouse has not been operational since 1962, but it still remains a beautiful building that has been virtually unaltered since it was built back in 1895. In 1990, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Historical Monuments in Put-in-Bay
Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial
Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial is the third tallest monument in the United States and visitors are able to travel up to the top of the tower for an amazing 360 degree view of South Bass Island. Thankfully, there is an elevator that will take you up to the top. It costs $3 to enter, which is a bargain! There were many park rangers around and you could approach them to ask any questions. They were very friendly and helpful. The view from the top was absolutely perfect. We were outdoors in the sunshine and could see around the entire island, including streets, the marina, and views of Lake Erie. It really helped us navigate where we wanted to go next and which parts of the island we hadn't seen yet. The Memorial represents the everlasting peace between America, Canada, and Great Britain following the War of 1812.
Caves in Put-in-Bay
Perry's Cave
Perry's Cave, located in Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island, is registered as an Ohio Natural Landmark. It is a natural limestone cave that lies 52 feet below the surface of Put-in-Bay. It was discovered in 1813 by Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, hero of the battle of Lake Erie. There are many fascinating things to see inside the cave, such as stalactites, stalagmites, and various formations that the tour guides believe look like various animals, items, etc. The tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable and tell very interesting stories about the history of the cave. There is a rare underground lake inside the cave. Tours run every 20 minutes and cost $8 per person. You can combine your ticket price with some of the other attractions at the site, like mini golf or the butterfly sanctuary to offset the total cost. There is also a gift shop at the cave.

Sports-Related in Put-in-Bay
Kayak the Bay
Kayaking around Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island is a great way to see this destination, plus you can visit places that you otherwise cannot reach! It's also a great way to get some exercise. Kayak The Bay is a tour company that offers kayak rentals - either kayaks holding one person, or tandem kayaks. You do not need to make any reservations in advance, you can just walk right up and rent a kayak for 2 hours. The person who worked there told us about all of the interesting places that we could visit. We chose to kayak across the bay to Gibraltar Island, an island owned by Ohio State University for research. The only way to reach the island is to kayak around it as people are not permitted to step foot on the island without permission. It looked like a whole other world with rocky, jagged cliffs. You could also "thread the needle" by rowing through a little tunnel in the rocks. It was our first time kayaking and it certainly won't be our last!
