Birthplace of José de San Martín

Within a major building another can be found, much more modest and in ruins. The first building houses the remains of the second, which was the birthplace of José Francisco de San Martin, Argentine military and national hero and father of the country. This house/Yapeyú monument can be found in the province of Corrientes and can be visited as a museum. It is guarded by members of the Regiment of Mounted Grenadiers, who, besides being the presidential guard, attend to functions of protocol.
