The work of the twentieth century faranica

The Palace of Parliament. The Ceausesco pharaonic work. It is much appreciated by Romanians rather hated since the work entailed great hardship for the people that was already pretty depressed. Pharaonic why after The Pentagon is the largest building in the world with an area of 65000 m2, its 2000 rooms. Were used in its construction involved 20,000 workers and 400 architects. Its construction marked undoubtedly an inordinate personality cult Ceausesco. The Palace is visited, a must for tourists visiting Romania. Guided tours and tight security there. At least the people can monetize a small part of what it took such great work, and our guide told us. The materials used were of high quality. Marble, bronze, gold, silver, glass, large rugs and oversized shades. There are curtains that weigh 2.5 tons, everything is huge, pharaohs. Suffice to say that you need a small crane to move some curtains. From the main room measures 3,600 m2 incidentally, comes out to a balcony or veranda where you can see the Plaza of the Constitution that opens in semi circle and from there part Uniriri Boulevard, a major thoroughfare of 4 kilometers and 120 meters in width. Having a dimension greater than the Champs Elysées in Paris, with gardens, fountains, water dispensers, the avenue ends like Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. www.rodamons.net

The Parliament Palace is the champion all categories of misuse of tax money from poor Romanians during the dictatorship. A huge stone building, which has the sad distinction of being the world's second largest, just behind the Pentagon building in Washington. It is the most famous and most controversial of the official buildings in the city. It was built during Ceausescu's dictatorship between 1984 and 1989, and were about 20 thousand workers and 400 architects who worked on the site, digging every day Romanian state deficit. This meanwhile not have any money to build schools, bridges and roads. High of 84 meters, the Palace of the Parliament has more than 60 thousand square meters to the ground, a thousand rooms, of which 440 are offices, conference rooms, receptions, some measuring more than 2mil square meters, everything is out of proportion if one considers that the country does not measure the half of Spain. Initially, it was called the People's House, and had to concentrate all powers under one roof, around the dictator, who live there. Today, around the landscape is quite modern, but at the beginning, it was not just a crazy project, but also was in the middle of nowhere, emphasizing his girth and his useless side. You can visit the castle, and a gallery of modern art inside, but not much interest.

Ambitious, no doubt!

Ambicioso , sin duda.

Excellent
And to think of everything that had to be demolished to build this gigantic and huge building, thousands of houses, church and synagogues, even a stadium, please, what a pretense, it is overwhelming. In still communist times 1984, the Palace of the Romanian Parliament or House of the town, I say that an irony, no! In times of scarcely any gas and electricity, such ostentation already accounted for the then President Nicolae Ceausescu, who, after visits to Asia, was jealous of him and his wife, so ostentatious. An earthquake gave him the opportunity after six years, to reform town planning to realize such a palace. Located on the artificial hill "Spirii", it is the seat of the two chambers of the Parliament. But how not to visit it, even if it is only the short guided entry, hour and half to the three hours with their respective prices and languages. Its interior is decorated in a palatial style, rooms with walnut wood, cherry oak, marbled bathrooms, silk tapestries, mural paintings and bronze lamps with smashing windows. Wow, you end up with torticolls looking at the ceilings, which really are exquisite. Rooms that are rented for conferences, congresses, exhibitions and wedding banquets. I think the shortest entry, with no possibility of photos, was 35 Ron and pass a tight police control, even they stay with your passport, they will return it to you at the exit. Going through such a magnificent palace, corridors and carpets that do not give credit, the lamps that hang from splendid ceilings, I think they are about 25,000 with their 300,000 light bulbs! Thousands of rooms and hundreds of bathrooms in 12 luxurious apartments, 8 of them underground underground, plus an antinuclear bunker. Its 700 architects and some 20,000 and more workers in shifts of 24 hours, until finalizing the project. Only used tons of Romanian materials divided between corridors, stairs, halls, halls, elevators and National Museum and conference rooms and that only show you, a small part. In short the work of the megalomaniac dictator, who was the shame for his people, for the abuse and overspending of its maintenance. Today provides them with income for their expensive maintenance in light, heating and personnel. In 1989, still incomplete the palace, Romania broke out in a revolution, having to escape from the capital, Ceausescu was captured and executed by a firing squad, without even enjoying its gigantic palatial pretensions that ended in 1994! There are probably so many numbers in the data that dance in statistics! Who knows .....

With 350,000 square meters of living space, difficult to understand why this building was named so. Surely not for its resemblance to the typical Romanian house. Maybe becaufe can fit under the high ceilings throughout the population. Each room illuminates the visitor's eye (even if the pictures do not make this impression well), and the outrageous opulence of the palace reminds how the Romanian people have suffered and still suffers.

The visit to the Parliament building

La visita al palazzo del Parlamento

Excellent
It allows to understand what are the immense dimensions of the structure. From the outside it is almost impossible to realize the size of the building and even more difficult to see the richness of the interior. The Parliament building has been built in all its parts from raw materials obtained from the various regions of Romania, just to demonstrate the greatness of the country, the main end of its construction. Like almost everything in the city, the price is accessible and the students, showing a valid document certifying this status, can enjoy a discount.
