A former military base
Adjacent to the Marina Green, a pleasant park in the heart of the Marina district of San Francisco, Fort Mason Center is one of the main historical buildings of the city. A former military base, it offers breathtaking views of Alcatraz, the most famous American prison, out on Pelican Island. The fort is unfortunately closed to the public at the moment, but the exterior still deserves a visit if you're in the neighborhood.
