Ruins of Regia Sarmizegetutsa

1 review of Ruins of Regia Sarmizegetutsa

Ancient Ruins

The ruins of the ancient capital of Dacia, Samizegetuza, are in Orastie. You have to climb up a dirt road towards them, and it will take about an hour driving. There you see the walls that protected the city from invasion, as well as one track, which is also paved, and was probably the main gateway to the city. It's amazing because this region had no stones, and it is in a very remote location, up a mountain. Dace and the townspeople somehow had to climb with these rocks to build their city. The place is part of the UNESCO world heritage. Admission is free, and the site is guarded by the army. It supposedly closes at 5 pm, but as there are no walls I don't know how they stop people entering.
