1 review of The Kingsway Tunnel

A strange building

This strange building is impossible to miss when you're walking northbound on Waterloo Street, which borders all of Liverpool's docks. But I found it peculiar that such a distinctive site was unmarked. This is the building housing the ventilation turbines for the Kingsway Tunnel, and has a twin building across the River Mersey. Construction began in the middle of the 60s and finished in 1971 when it was opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The two gates are next to air intake valves that make a sound like a rocket about to blast off into space.
